The Further Hunting Of Penguins
Had another successful day adding to the various collections earlier in the week, particularly the Penguins.
I managed to pick up copies of ‘An Introduction to Modern Architecture’ by J M Richards, (a newer version than the one I already have), ‘The Time Machine‘ by H G Wells, ‘The Day of the Triffids‘ by John Wyndham, (yes another copy), and a first edition of ‘The Compleat Angler’ by Izaak Walton published in 1939.
Was particularly pleased to add a copy of ‘The Compleat Angler’ to the collection given the praise that Phil Baines in his essential ‘Penguin By Design – A Cover Story 1935 – 2005’ gave the edition :
“The only cover in which illustration is both positively used and sucessfully intergrated into the design is The Compleat Angler. The wood engraving is by Gertrude Hermes, who also worked on Richard Jeffries’ The Story of My Heart in the illustrated Classics series of 1938.”
I also now have ‘The Penguin Atlas’ which has marginally abated my jealousy for @aceject170’s batch of maps recently received from overseas.
