Crickets Chirping Quietly . . .

22Dec10

There’s a Bill Hicks routine where he talks about the depressing nature of watching endless news reports on CNN, he’s watching “war, famine, death, homelessness, recession, depression” then looks out his window to see nothing but peace and tranquillity and to hear nothing but the crickets chirping quietly to themselves.

Over the last few weeks I’ve understood how Bill felt. Because whilst the various news broadcasters have advised me to stay at home, informing me that my journeys should be postponed unless essential, (which I’ve never really had clarified), and the weathermen have threatened the end of days, albeit very pretty ones, we out here on the edge of the flatlands have been looking out of our windows to see nothing but peace and tranquillity and to hear nothing but the crickets chirping quietly to themselves.
