“Largely Ignored Jugs Of Water”

05Aug08

We came . . .

A weekend at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham with my employer, to attend my second conference of the year. Quite what others thought of it was difficult to tell above the casual brawling that took place at meal times and the rather less than casual brawling that occurred in the exhibition area where promotional mugs and mints were highly sought after. Other than the work at hand (which wasn’t as dull as I had feared but conversely wasn’t as interesting as I had hoped) the highlights for me included trying to identify what I had been served for dinner, pondering why the hotel shop was full of London buses and teddy bear Beefeaters and wandering around the industrial surroundings of a very empty NEC. (And yes the quote comes from the North West’s finest, Half Man Half Biscuit.)

we saw . . .

we left.
